Terms & Conditions

Terms & Conditions

Version 8 – Last updated: November 2026

1. Introduction

1.1 These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Stable Neighbours website, mobile site, and any related services (together, the "Platform").

1.2 The Platform is operated by Stable Neighbours Ltd, a company incorporated in England and Wales with company number 17124229 and registered office at 8 Andover Road, Southsea, England, PO4 9QG.

1.3 The Platform is an online marketplace that connects horse owners, riders and local businesses. Through it, Neighbours can:

  • list horses for loan, or for farriery;
  • arrange intro calls, meet & greets and regular loans;
  • list and book business services, such as farriery;
  • message one another and take part in neighbourhood chats;
  • post and comment in the community; and
  • leave reviews and ratings.

1.4 The Platform operates solely within the United Kingdom.

Definitions

1.5 In these Terms:

(a) "we", "us" and "our" mean Stable Neighbours Ltd;

(b) a "Neighbour" is anyone with a Stable Neighbours account, whether they own, ride or run a business;

(c) "you" means the Neighbour using the Platform;

(d) a "Profile" is how a Neighbour uses the Platform. There are three types: Rider, Owner and Business. A Neighbour can have none, one or more, and at most one of each type;

(e) a "Listing" is anything a Profile offers to other Neighbours, for example a horse on an Owner Profile or farriery on a Business Profile;

(f) the "Provider" is the person or company behind a Business Profile's Listing, who supplies it and receives payment for it. For a sole trader, the Provider is the Neighbour themselves. For a limited company, it is the company;

(g) "suggesting a booking" means sending another Neighbour a proposed booking through the Platform. That includes suggesting a meet & greet time, an owner sending loan terms, an owner sending a farrier an enquiry, a farrier suggesting a visit, and a payment request;

(h) "FRC Verified", shown on a farrier, means we found the farrier on the Farriers Registration Council's register when we checked. We check once and don't recheck. We don't check their insurance, qualifications or the quality of their work;

(i) a "payment request" is a booking a farrier sends to someone, with or without an account, asking them to pay for a visit; and

(j) "confirming a booking" is the step that makes a booking binding: paying for it through the Platform or, for a regular loan with no financial contribution, confirming the loan terms the owner has sent. It applies whatever the button on screen says, for example "Pay £X", "Pay & confirm loan" or "Confirm loan". "Confirm" and "confirmed" have the same meaning when used about a booking.

2. Acceptance of Terms

2.1 By creating an account, accessing, browsing, listing, booking, messaging, posting content, or otherwise using the Platform, you confirm that you:

(a) have read and understood these Terms;

(b) agree to be legally bound by them; and

(c) are at least 18 years of age.

2.2 If you use the Platform on behalf of a business or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that business or organisation to these Terms.

2.3 If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Platform.

2.4 These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and us.

2.5 Your use of the Platform is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and process personal data in accordance with applicable UK data protection law.

2.6 The Platform uses cookies and similar technologies. Our Cookie Policy explains what we use, why, and how you can manage your preferences.

2.7 We may amend these Terms as set out in Section 20.

2.8 We recommend that you download or print a copy of these Terms for your records.

2.9 These Terms are available in English only.

2.10 If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms affects your legal rights.

3. Our Role

3.1 We operate solely as an online marketplace.

3.2 We provide a digital platform that connects Neighbours in relation to horse-related activities and services. We do not provide horses, riding, riding instruction, farriery, veterinary or any other equestrian or professional services ourselves.

3.3 All listings, bookings, communications and arrangements made through the Platform are entered into directly between Neighbours. We are not a party to any agreement between Neighbours and do not act as agent, representative, partner, employer or insurer of any Neighbour. Nothing in these Terms creates any joint venture, partnership or employment relationship between us and any Neighbour.

3.4 We do not supervise, direct, control or monitor the conduct of Neighbours during any loan, meet & greet, farrier appointment or other activity arranged through the Platform.

3.5 We do not guarantee:

(a) the accuracy, completeness or reliability of any Listing, Profile or content;

(b) the behaviour, temperament, suitability, health or safety of any horse;

(c) the competence, qualifications, experience or conduct of any rider, owner, Provider or other Neighbour;

(d) the legality, safety or suitability of any facility, equipment or location used in connection with any activity;

(e) that any activity arranged through the Platform will be safe or free from risk; or

(f) that any Neighbour complies with applicable laws or regulatory requirements.

3.6 You decide whether to enter into a booking or arrangement through the Platform. You are responsible for assessing the suitability, safety and legality of any arrangement before going ahead.

3.7 We do not guarantee that the Platform will be available at all times or free from technical errors, interruptions or delays.

3.8 Payments made through the Platform are processed by Stripe, or such other payment provider as we may appoint. Payments go directly to the Stripe account of the Neighbour or Provider being paid. We never hold your money.

3.9 We are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and do not provide regulated financial services.

3.10 You can contact us at stableneighbours@gmail.com.

4. Eligibility & Accounts

4.1 To use the Platform, you must:

(a) be at least 18 years of age;

(b) be legally capable of entering into binding contracts; and

(c) comply with these Terms.

4.2 The Platform is intended for use by individuals located in the United Kingdom. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the Platform complies with applicable laws.

4.3 Accounts may only be created and held by individuals aged 18 or over. Minors (persons under the age of 18) may not create accounts or use the Platform directly.

4.4 A responsible adult aged 18 or over may use their account to arrange equestrian activities in which a minor participates, provided that:

(a) the responsible adult holds the account in their own name and remains the contracting party for all purposes;

(b) the responsible adult supervises and takes full responsibility for the minor's participation in any activity arranged through the Platform;

(c) the responsible adult ensures that appropriate insurance cover is in place for the minor's participation;

(d) by going ahead with any booking involving a minor, the responsible adult confirms that they have the legal authority to make arrangements on the minor's behalf and accept these Terms on the minor's behalf; and

(e) the responsible adult, or another parent or guardian of the minor, is present at every meet & greet, ride and other activity involving the minor.

4.5 Subject to clause 16.1, we accept no responsibility for any activity involving a minor arranged through the Platform. All responsibility for the minor's safety, welfare and participation rests with the responsible adult.

Accounts

4.6 You must create an account to use certain features of the Platform.

4.7 By creating an account, you ask us to start providing access to the Platform straight away. Access begins when your account is created.

4.8 Each account must be registered in the name of a single individual. Shared, joint or transferable accounts are not permitted.

4.9 You must provide accurate, current and complete information when creating your account and keep it up to date.

4.10 You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for all activity under your account.

4.11 You must not:

(a) create more than one account without our permission;

(b) allow another person to access or use your account;

(c) impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity; or

(d) transfer, assign or sell your account.

4.12 If you believe your account has been accessed without authorisation, you must tell us promptly.

Profiles

4.13 You may create a Rider, Owner or Business Profile. Each Profile may ask you for further information relevant to it.

4.14 You confirm that any information you provide for a Profile or Listing is accurate, complete and not misleading.

4.15 You are responsible for ensuring that you are legally permitted and appropriately authorised to offer any Listing or service through your account.

Suspension and Termination of Accounts

4.16 We may suspend, restrict or terminate your account, or remove access to specific Profiles or features, if we reasonably believe that:

(a) you have breached these Terms;

(b) you have provided false or misleading information;

(c) your use of the Platform poses a risk to other Neighbours, horses, property or the reputation of the Platform; or

(d) suspension is required to comply with legal or regulatory obligations.

4.17 We will act reasonably when exercising our rights under clause 4.16 and, where appropriate, will tell you the reasons. If you have a Business Profile, clauses 4.18 to 4.20 also apply.

Business Profiles

4.18 If we restrict or suspend your Business Profile or any of its Listings, or remove one of its Listings, we will email you our reasons before or at the time it takes effect. Our reasons will set out the specific facts or circumstances, including what any report about you said (without identifying who made it), and which of the grounds in clause 4.16 we are relying on.

4.19 Before we close your Business Profile, or the account it belongs to, we will email you at least 30 days' notice and our reasons, unless:

(a) the law or a regulator requires us to close it in a way that does not allow that notice;

(b) the law of England and Wales entitles us to end our agreement with you straight away, for example because of fraud or a serious breach of these Terms; or

(c) you have repeatedly breached these Terms.

In those cases, we will still email you our reasons straight away, unless the law prevents us from doing so. During any notice period, we may still restrict or suspend your Business Profile under clause 4.18.

4.20 You can reply to us to clarify the facts, or ask us to look at the decision again (clause 6.11). If we reverse our decision, we will restore your Business Profile and Listings, including your access to their data, without undue delay.

4.21 You may ask us to close your account at any time, as set out in Section 18.

5. Listings & Accuracy

Creation of Listings

5.1 With the relevant Profile, you may create Listings on the Platform, such as a horse or a farriery service. Other Listing types may be added in future.

5.2 You are responsible for the content of any Listing you create, including all descriptions, photographs and other information.

5.3 You must ensure that all information in your Listing is accurate, complete, up to date and not misleading.

Horse Listings

5.4 Horse Listings are for private owners sharing their own horses. You must not list horses that you loan as a business. A regular loan is a private arrangement between Neighbours. The rider's financial contribution helps the owner cover the cost of caring for their horse. It is not a payment for a service, and owners must not make a profit from it.

5.5 You loan horses as a business if, for example, you run a riding school, livery yard or dealership, or you regularly loan horses to make a profit. Businesses can still book farriers. Owners connect their payment account as an individual, and we may block, remove or restrict any horse Listing or account that we reasonably believe breaks clause 5.4.

5.6 If you list a horse, you confirm that you are authorised to list it and that the details are accurate. You must tell riders about any known behaviour or health issues, and any other matters that a reasonable person would consider relevant to safety or suitability. You remain responsible for your horse's welfare and insurance.

Business Listings

5.7 If you list a service, you must ensure that you are legally permitted and appropriately authorised to provide it.

5.8 You must not leave out information that could reasonably affect another Neighbour's decision to enter into a booking or arrangement.

Insurance and Permissions

5.9 If you create a Listing for a horse or a service, you confirm that:

(a) you hold insurance that is appropriate and adequate for the activities offered, including public liability insurance where applicable;

(b) you have obtained any necessary permissions from landowners, yard owners or other relevant third parties; and

(c) the Listing and the activity offered comply with applicable laws and regulations.

5.10 If you take part in any riding or equestrian activity arranged through the Platform, including riding at a meet & greet, you must hold insurance that is appropriate and adequate for that activity, including personal accident and liability cover where applicable.

5.11 If you choose to take part without appropriate insurance, you are responsible for any loss or damage that insurance would otherwise have covered, subject to clause 16.1.

5.12 We do not verify, monitor or guarantee the existence, validity, scope or adequacy of any insurance policy held by any Neighbour.

Prohibited Listing Content

5.13 You must not include in any Listing:

(a) false, misleading or deceptive information;

(b) unlawful, defamatory, abusive or discriminatory content;

(c) content that infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party;

(d) contact details, external links or information intended to arrange payment or communication outside the Platform, except that a farrier may include a telephone number on their Listing for initial enquiries; or

(e) content that breaches applicable laws or regulations.

Photographs and Media

5.14 You may upload photographs or other media to support your Listing.

5.15 You confirm that you either own the content you upload or have the necessary rights and permissions to use it.

5.16 You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, display and distribute any content you upload for the purposes of operating, promoting and improving the Platform.

5.17 You keep ownership of your content.

Editing and Removal

5.18 You may edit or remove your Listing at any time, subject to any existing bookings or legal obligations.

5.19 We may remove or restrict any Listing if we reasonably believe it breaches these Terms or poses a risk to Neighbours, horses, property or the reputation of the Platform. For a Listing on a Business Profile, clause 4.18 also applies.

6. User Content & Communications

User Content

6.1 The Platform allows you to create, post, upload, send and publish content, including Profile information, posts, comments, reviews, messages and other communications ("User Content").

6.2 You are solely responsible for any User Content you create, post or send through the Platform.

6.3 We do not endorse, approve or adopt any User Content and do not guarantee its accuracy, completeness or reliability.

6.4 Profiles, Listings, reviews, and community posts and comments are public: anyone can see them without an account, and search engines may show them.

Licence to Use User Content

6.5 By submitting User Content to the Platform, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, store, display and distribute that User Content for the purposes of operating, maintaining, promoting and improving the Platform. For private messages, this licence only allows us to store, deliver and moderate them. We do not use private messages to promote the Platform.

6.6 You keep ownership of your User Content.

Standards for User Content

6.7 You must ensure that your User Content:

(a) is accurate and not misleading;

(b) complies with applicable laws and regulations;

(c) does not infringe the intellectual property rights or privacy rights of any third party;

(d) is not defamatory, abusive, threatening, discriminatory or unlawful;

(e) does not contain contact details, payment instructions or other information intended to arrange transactions outside the Platform, except that a farrier may include a telephone number on their Listing for initial enquiries; and

(f) is not pornographic, and does not encourage, promote or give instructions for suicide, self-harm or eating disorders.

Keeping the Platform Safe

6.8 Illegal content is not allowed on the Platform. We remove it when we find it or it is reported to us, and we may restrict or close the account that posted it.

6.9 We do not pre-approve User Content. Messages are checked automatically, and a message that shares contact or payment details is blocked.

6.10 You can report a post, comment, review or Neighbour to us. Our team reviews every report. We may remove content, restrict or close an account, or take no action. We don't always tell you the outcome, but you can contact us about a report at stableneighbours@gmail.com.

6.11 If you think we got a decision wrong, for example by removing your content or restricting your account, you can complain to us at stableneighbours@gmail.com and we will look at it again.

6.12 We may remove, restrict or disable access to User Content if we reasonably believe it breaches these Terms or poses a risk to Neighbours, horses, property or the reputation of the Platform.

6.13 Removing User Content does not oblige us to monitor the Platform or to take similar action in relation to other content.

Communications Between Neighbours

6.14 The Platform provides messaging, neighbourhood chats and intro video calls so that Neighbours can communicate.

6.15 Direct messages are only visible to the Neighbours in the conversation and are not read by our team as a matter of routine. Neighbourhood chat messages are visible to all members of that neighbourhood and should be treated accordingly.

6.16 You can block another Neighbour, which stops them messaging you.

6.17 You must not use the Platform to harass, threaten, intimidate or otherwise misuse communication features.

6.18 We may access, review or disclose communications where reasonably necessary to:

(a) investigate suspected breaches of these Terms;

(b) comply with legal or regulatory obligations; or

(c) respond to lawful requests from law enforcement authorities.

7. Intellectual Property Rights

7.1 All intellectual property rights in and to the Platform, including its design, layout, branding, logos, software, databases, text (excluding User Content), graphics and functionality, are owned by or licensed to us.

7.2 You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the Platform for personal and lawful purposes in accordance with these Terms.

7.3 You must not:

(a) copy, reproduce, modify or create derivative works of any part of the Platform;

(b) use the Stable Neighbours name, logo or branding without our prior written consent; or

(c) exploit the Platform or its content for commercial purposes without our permission.

7.4 Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights in the Platform to you.

8. Community Standards & Prohibited Conduct

General Conduct

8.1 You must use the Platform lawfully, responsibly and in good faith.

8.2 You must not use the Platform in any way that:

(a) breaches applicable laws or regulations;

(b) infringes the rights of any other Neighbour or third party; or

(c) damages, disrupts or interferes with the operation, security or integrity of the Platform.

Circumvention of the Platform

8.3 You must not attempt to avoid, bypass or circumvent any fees, payment systems or processes provided through the Platform.

8.4 You must not use the Platform to arrange transactions outside the Platform where those transactions began on the Platform.

8.5 You must not request or share contact details, bank details or payment information for the purpose of completing transactions outside the Platform.

8.6 Despite clauses 8.4 and 8.5, we recognise that farriers manage much of their work by telephone. You may therefore phone a farrier on the number shown on their Listing to make enquiries, arrange appointments and manage bookings. Where a farrier booking is arranged or paid for through the Platform, these Terms apply in full. We will give reasonable notice before requiring farrier bookings to be made through the Platform.

Fraud and Misrepresentation

8.7 You must not engage in fraudulent, deceptive or misleading conduct.

8.8 You must not misrepresent your identity, qualifications, experience, ownership, insurance status or authority in connection with any activity on the Platform.

Platform Misuse

8.9 You must not:

(a) copy, reproduce, distribute or exploit Listings or other content from the Platform without permission;

(b) use automated systems, bots, scrapers or data extraction tools to access or collect information from the Platform;

(c) reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or attempt to derive the source code of the Platform;

(d) introduce viruses, malware or other harmful code; or

(e) interfere with or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platform or related systems.

Enforcement

8.10 If we reasonably believe that you have breached this Section 8, we may take appropriate action, including restricting access to features, removing content, or suspending or terminating your account in accordance with Section 4.

8.11 Our failure to take action in relation to a breach does not waive our rights.

9. Bookings & Formation of Contract

Suggesting a Booking

9.1 You can suggest a booking for a horse or a service listed by another Neighbour, and a Neighbour with a Listing can suggest a booking to you.

9.2 Suggesting a booking does not create a legally binding contract, and a Listing is not an offer capable of acceptance.

Formation of Contract

9.3 A legally binding contract between the Neighbours involved is formed:

(a) for a booking with a price, when the Neighbour paying confirms the booking and their payment is taken through the Platform; and

(b) for a regular loan with no financial contribution, when the rider confirms the loan terms the owner has sent.

9.4 Until then, either Neighbour may withdraw from the suggested booking without contractual liability.

9.5 Farrier bookings work as follows: the owner sends the farrier an enquiry, or the farrier suggests a visit; the owner confirms the booking by paying through the Platform; the payment goes directly to the farrier's Stripe account. This clause does not apply to farrier bookings arranged by telephone under clause 8.6.

9.6 A farrier can send a payment request to someone without an account. To pay it, they create an account and accept these Terms, and the booking is then treated like any other farrier booking.

9.7 Regular loans work as follows: the owner sends the rider loan terms; the rider confirms the loan, which, where there is a financial contribution, means paying the first month through the Platform.

Intro Calls and Meet & Greets

9.8 Owners and riders can hold an intro video call, or arrange an in-person meet & greet, before agreeing a loan. These are not available for business services.

9.9 An intro call or meet & greet does not create a legally binding contract.

9.10 We provide the video call, but we do not supervise, record, verify or control any intro call or meet & greet, and, subject to clause 16.1, we accept no responsibility for the conduct, safety, content or outcome of either.

9.11 Any in-person meeting, including a meet & greet involving a horse, riding, or a visit to a yard or facility, is arranged between Neighbours and undertaken voluntarily. Being around horses involves risk (see Section 12).

9.12 You are responsible for ensuring that appropriate safety measures, permissions and insurance cover are in place for any meet & greet.

Nature of the Contract

9.13 Any contract formed under clause 9.3 is made directly between the Neighbours involved, or between the Neighbour paying and the Provider.

9.14 We are not a party to any contract formed between Neighbours and do not act as agent for either party.

9.15 The terms of any booking are:

(a) the information in the relevant Listing;

(b) for a regular loan, the loan terms sent by the owner and confirmed by the rider;

(c) any other terms agreed through the Platform's messaging before the contract is formed; and

(d) these Terms.

Your Responsibility

9.16 You are responsible for checking that all details of a booking, including dates, times, prices and specific conditions, are correct before you confirm it. A booking can no longer be edited once it has been confirmed.

9.17 Once a contract has been formed under clause 9.3, it is legally binding, subject to the cancellation terms in Section 11.

Checking and Recording Your Booking

9.18 Before you confirm a booking, the Platform shows you a summary of the booking, including the price, the platform fee, dates and, for regular loans, the payment schedule. If something is wrong, you can go back, message the other Neighbour, or ask them to send an updated booking before you continue.

9.19 After a booking is confirmed, we send you a confirmation email, and you can view your bookings in your account. We keep a record of each booking and of the Terms that applied to it.

Sharing Locations

9.20 We don't ask for your home address, and your postcode isn't shared with other Neighbours. A farrier's business address, which may be their home, is shown to customers (clause 13.5). A horse's location is shared with:

(a) a rider, when the owner arranges a meet & greet or sends loan terms; and

(b) a farrier, when the owner sends an enquiry or pays for a booking.

9.21 For farrier bookings, the farrier's legal name and address are shown to the owner before they confirm the booking and in the confirmation email, and the farrier's phone number is shown on the booking confirmation, as the law requires.

10. Payments & Fees

Payment Processing

10.1 Payments made through the Platform are processed by Stripe, or such other payment provider as we may appoint.

10.2 By making or receiving payments through the Platform, you agree to comply with the terms and conditions of the payment provider.

10.3 To receive payments, you must set up an account with Stripe. Payments go directly to that account. We do not process payments ourselves, hold client money, or provide payment services.

Platform Fee

10.4 The Neighbour paying for a booking pays our platform fee. It is shown before you pay.

10.5 Our platform fee pays for arranging your booking. When you confirm a booking, you ask us to arrange it straight away. That's done once the booking is confirmed, so the fee isn't refundable after that, unless the farrier or we cancel the booking (clause 11.1), or a technical error means you're charged but your booking isn't confirmed. On a regular loan, each monthly payment includes the fee for that month, and the fees stop when the loan ends or is cancelled.

10.6 We may change our fees for valid commercial reasons. Changes will not affect bookings that have already been confirmed.

Authorisation and Collection of Payment

10.7 When you pay for a booking, you authorise the payment provider to take the payment, including the platform fee.

10.8 We are not responsible for errors, delays, chargebacks or payment disputes arising from the actions of payment providers or financial institutions.

Saved Cards

10.9 If you save a card, Stripe stores it and we never see your card details. A saved card can be used to pay any Neighbour or Provider you book with on the Platform, but only when you choose it at checkout, and for the monthly payments of a regular loan you've agreed. You can remove a saved card at any time in your account settings. A card paying a regular loan can be changed at any time from the loan's booking page, but not removed while the loan runs. To stop the payments, cancel the loan.

Taxes

10.10 You are responsible for your own tax obligations arising from bookings or other activities on the Platform.

10.11 If you're paid for a business listing, we report what you earn through the Platform to HMRC each year, as the law requires. This includes your name, address, tax details and the payments you received.

10.12 We do not provide tax advice and do not withhold or pay taxes on your behalf unless required by law.

Regular Loans

10.13 A regular loan is a monthly arrangement for the loan of a horse, agreed through the Platform. It runs for the term set out in the loan terms and ends automatically at the end of that term. It does not renew. To continue, the owner sends new loan terms.

10.14 Where a regular loan has a financial contribution, the first payment is taken when the rider confirms the loan, even if it starts later. It covers the first month from the agreed start date.

10.15 Later payments are taken automatically each month, in advance, on the same date as the loan start date, or on the last day of the month if that date doesn't exist.

10.16 By confirming a regular loan with a financial contribution, the rider authorises the payment provider to take the agreed monthly payment, including the platform fee, until the loan ends or is cancelled.

10.17 If a monthly payment has not been made within 7 days of being due, the loan is cancelled. Months already paid for are not refunded.

10.18 We do not settle disputes about regular loans and are not responsible for enforcing any agreement between Neighbours beyond the operation of the Platform's payment system.

11. Cancellations

Farrier Bookings

11.1 If the farrier or we cancel a confirmed booking, the owner gets a full refund, including the platform fee.

11.2 If the owner cancels before the appointment, they get the farrier's price back if either:

(a) they cancel within 14 days of booking; or

(b) they cancel more than 48 hours before the appointment.

11.3 If the owner cancels within 48 hours of the appointment, and more than 14 days after booking, there is no refund, subject to your legal rights.

11.4 The platform fee is not refunded when the owner cancels.

Regular Loans

11.5 Either the owner or the rider can cancel a regular loan through the Platform at any time.

11.6 Where the loan has a financial contribution, future payments stop and the loan continues until the end of the paid period. Loan payments and the platform fee are not refunded. The owner must honour the loan until the end of any paid period, subject to the horse's welfare.

11.7 Where the loan has no financial contribution, it ends straight away.

General

11.8 A booking cannot be cancelled once it has started, except a running regular loan. This does not affect any statutory cancellation rights or other legal remedies you may have.

11.9 Refunds are made through the payment provider and are subject to its processing times. We are not responsible for delays caused by payment providers or financial institutions.

11.10 We do not settle disputes about cancellations or decide entitlement to refunds beyond applying this Section.

11.11 Any agreement between Neighbours to vary or waive these cancellation terms must be clearly confirmed through the Platform.

Your Legal Right to Cancel

11.12 If you are a consumer, you normally have a legal right to cancel a contract made online with a business within 14 days of the contract being formed, without giving a reason. This applies to our booking service and to services from a Provider, such as a farrier.

11.13 Our booking service: when you confirm a booking, you ask us to arrange it straight away. Our service is complete once the booking is confirmed, and from then you can no longer cancel it. This is why the platform fee isn't refunded when you cancel (clause 10.5).

11.14 Farrier services: if the appointment falls within the 14 days, you ask the farrier to carry it out within that period. You can still cancel before the appointment and get the farrier's price back (clause 11.2). Once the work has been carried out, you can no longer cancel it.

11.15 A regular loan is an arrangement between private individuals, so this legal right to cancel does not apply to the loan itself. Clauses 11.5 to 11.7 apply instead.

11.16 To cancel, use the cancel option on your booking. If you can't, email us at stableneighbours@gmail.com. You can use the model form below, but you don't have to. If you're cancelling a farrier booking, we pass your notice to the farrier. For cancellation notices only, Providers authorise Stable Neighbours to receive notices on their behalf. A notice received by us is treated as received by the Provider at that time.

11.17 Any refund due is made to the original payment method within 14 days of us receiving your notice.

12. Assumption of Risk

Inherent Risk of Equestrian Activities

12.1 You acknowledge and agree that horse riding and other equestrian activities involve inherent and unavoidable risks.

12.2 Horses are animals that may behave unpredictably and may react to sounds, movements, weather conditions, other animals or riders.

12.3 Equestrian activities may involve risks including, without limitation:

(a) falls from a horse;

(b) kicks, bites or other animal-related injury;

(c) collisions with objects, other riders or vehicles;

(d) equipment failure;

(e) injury caused by uneven ground or environmental conditions;

(f) injury during horse handling, including during farriery appointments; and

(g) serious injury or death.

Voluntary Participation

12.4 By taking part in any riding or equestrian activity arranged through the Platform, you confirm that you do so voluntarily and with knowledge of the inherent risks involved.

12.5 You are responsible for assessing your own ability, experience, fitness and suitability before taking part in any activity.

12.6 You are responsible for having appropriate safety equipment and appropriate insurance cover as required under these Terms.

No Supervision or Control by Us

12.7 We do not supervise, manage or control equestrian activities arranged through the Platform and do not provide training, instruction or safety oversight.

12.8 We are not responsible for the conduct of Neighbours, the condition or behaviour of any horse, or the safety of any location where activities take place.

13. Business Listings

Farriers

13.1 To list farriery on the Platform, you must ensure that anyone carrying out farriery is registered with the Farriers Registration Council or is legally permitted to carry out that work under an applicable exemption. You can give us your registration number to help us check it.

13.2 Providers of farriery are solely responsible for:

(a) holding any qualifications, registrations or licences required by law;

(b) complying with applicable professional or regulatory standards; and

(c) maintaining appropriate insurance cover.

13.3 We check the Farriers Registration Council's register and show an FRC Verified badge once we've found a farrier on it, as defined in clause 1.5(h). Until then, a farrier's registration is self-declared. Qualifications are always self-declared. We do not check insurance, qualifications or the quality of anyone's work.

13.4 Each business listing is run either by you as a sole trader, or by a limited company. A sole trader listing is paid into your own Stripe account. A limited company's listing is paid into the company's own Stripe account, and the company is the Provider. If you list for a company, you confirm you're authorised to act for it.

13.5 Your legal name (or your company's registered name) and business address are shown to customers before they confirm a booking and in their confirmation email, and your phone number is shown on their booking confirmation, as the law requires. We take your legal name from your Stripe account. Your business address is, for a sole trader, your verified address held by Stripe; for a limited company, its registered office, read from Companies House (or from Stripe if it isn't available there).

13.6 If you book a business service, you are responsible for assessing the suitability and credentials of the Provider before going ahead.

Search Ranking

13.7 This clause explains the main things that decide where a business Listing, such as a farrier, appears in search results.

13.8 Distance is measured from where the customer is: the place they search for or, if they haven't searched, their saved home postcode, then their approximate location from their IP address. A farrier's base is placed at the centre of its postcode district, never at an exact address. What counts is how far the customer is outside the farrier's travel area: the distance to the base minus the farrier's travel radius (20 miles if none is set), so it is zero when the farrier covers the customer. When a customer searches for a place, only farriers who cover it are shown.

13.9 By default, results are sorted by Best match. Listings are grouped by distance outside the travel area (0–10, 10–25, 25–50, 50–100 and over 100 km), then ordered within each group by rating, then by recent bookings. Distance counts most because farriers travel to the horse. Rating comes before bookings because quality matters more than volume. The "Popular farriers" section on our home page also uses Best match.

13.10 Customers can instead sort results by:

(a) Popularity: bookings made in the last 180 days that were confirmed, plus any in progress;

(b) Rating: highest weighted rating first (clause 13.11);

(c) Experience: years of experience declared by the farrier, most first. We do not check it; or

(d) Distance: closest first and, where several farriers cover the customer, the nearest base first.

13.11 Ratings are weighted: each farrier's average is pulled towards the average across the Platform, with the weight of five reviews, so that one 5-star review doesn't outrank many reviews just below it.

13.12 Where Listings are otherwise equal, Listings with reviews come first, then the higher weighted rating, then the newest Listing, then business name in alphabetical order.

13.13 Nobody can pay to rank higher. Fees and payments have no effect on where a Listing appears, and neither does the FRC Verified badge.

Promoting Listings

13.14 Listings are public and may appear in search engine results (clause 6.4). We may also show Listings on our social media and in other marketing for the Platform (clause 5.16). We do not run an affiliate programme.

Your Data as a Business

13.15 Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data. If you have a Business Profile:

(a) for each booking, you can see the customer's name and Profile, the horse's details and location (clause 9.20), the booking details and your messages with the customer. You must only use this data to provide your services to that customer, in line with these Terms and data protection law;

(b) you can see your Listings, your reviews and ratings, and the bookings and payments made with you through the Platform;

(c) apart from what is shown on your dashboard, you cannot access data about other Neighbours or businesses, or our data about how the Platform is used, such as searches and page visits;

(d) we keep and use data from your Listings and bookings to run and improve the Platform, and share it with third parties only as set out in our Privacy Policy, for example with Stripe to process payments and with HMRC for tax reporting (clause 10.11); and

(e) when your Business Profile or account closes, you can no longer access this data through the Platform. Before then, you can ask us for a copy of your personal data, as set out in our Privacy Policy. We keep some records after closure, as our Privacy Policy explains.

14. Reviews & Ratings

Purpose of Reviews

14.1 The Platform allows Neighbours to leave reviews and ratings about bookings.

14.2 Reviews are intended to reflect the genuine experience of the Neighbour leaving them. Only Neighbours who took part in a completed booking can review it, and only once.

Responsibility for Reviews

14.3 You are solely responsible for the content of any review or rating you submit.

14.4 Reviews must be honest, fair, based on your actual experience, and not misleading.

14.5 Reviews must comply with applicable laws, including laws relating to defamation and unfair commercial practices.

Prohibited Review Conduct

14.6 You must not:

(a) submit a false or fabricated review;

(b) submit a review in exchange for payment, incentive or coercion;

(c) threaten another Neighbour with a negative review to obtain compensation or favourable treatment;

(d) post abusive, defamatory or discriminatory content in a review; or

(e) attempt to manipulate ratings.

Moderation of Reviews

14.7 We do not verify the accuracy of reviews and do not guarantee that reviews are truthful or reliable.

14.8 We may remove or restrict reviews if we reasonably believe they breach these Terms or applicable law.

14.9 We do not remove a review just because it is negative, or because a Neighbour disputes its content.

No Liability for Reviews

14.10 We are not responsible for the content of reviews submitted by Neighbours.

14.11 Publishing a review does not mean we endorse or approve it.

14.12 You can report a review you think breaks these Terms (clause 6.10). We do not offer rewards for leaving reviews.

15. Disputes Between Neighbours

Your Responsibility

15.1 Any dispute between Neighbours in connection with a Listing, booking, service or other activity arranged through the Platform is a matter solely between those Neighbours.

15.2 You are responsible for resolving disputes directly and in good faith.

No Adjudication by Us

15.3 We do not act as mediator, arbitrator or adjudicator in disputes between Neighbours.

15.4 We are not responsible for deciding fault, liability, entitlement to compensation, or the outcome of any disagreement between Neighbours.

15.5 Applying the cancellation terms in Section 11 does not mean we are settling a dispute.

Assistance and Cooperation

15.6 We may, at our discretion, provide reasonable help to Neighbours in communicating with one another to resolve a dispute.

15.7 We may request information from you where reasonably necessary to investigate potential breaches of these Terms.

15.8 We may cooperate with law enforcement authorities or regulatory bodies where required by law or where reasonably necessary in connection with alleged unlawful conduct.

Release

15.9 Subject to clause 16.1, we are not liable for losses arising from disputes between Neighbours.

16. Limitation of Liability

Non-Excludable Liability

16.1 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for:

(a) death or personal injury caused by negligence;

(b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or

(c) any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

16.2 The Platform is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no representations, warranties or guarantees, whether express or implied, that the Platform will meet your requirements, operate without interruption, or be error-free.

No Liability for Neighbours' Conduct

16.3 Subject to clause 16.1, we are not liable for:

(a) the acts or omissions of any Neighbour;

(b) the conduct, behaviour or suitability of any horse, rider, owner or Provider;

(c) any loss or damage arising from arrangements made between Neighbours; or

(d) any failure by a Neighbour to comply with applicable laws, regulations or insurance requirements.

Excluded Losses

16.4 Subject to clause 16.1, we are not liable for any:

(a) indirect or consequential loss;

(b) loss of profit, revenue, business or anticipated savings;

(c) loss of opportunity or goodwill; or

(d) data loss or corruption,

whether arising in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise.

Cap on Liability

16.5 Subject to clause 16.1, our total aggregate liability to you arising out of or in connection with the Platform shall not exceed the greater of:

(a) £1,000; or

(b) the total fees paid by you to us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

16.6 This cap applies to all claims arising in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise.

Reasonableness

16.7 You acknowledge that the limitations and exclusions in this Section 16 are reasonable, having regard to:

(a) the nature of the Platform as an intermediary service;

(b) the allocation of risk between Neighbours; and

(c) the availability of insurance.

17. Indemnity

Your Indemnity

17.1 You agree to indemnify and keep indemnified Stable Neighbours Ltd, its directors, officers, employees and agents against any claims, liabilities, losses, damages, costs or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with:

(a) your breach of these Terms;

(b) your unlawful use of the Platform;

(c) any Listing, content, review or communication submitted by you that is unlawful or infringes the rights of others;

(d) your failure to comply with applicable laws, regulations or insurance requirements; or

(e) any claim brought by another Neighbour or third party arising from your breach of these Terms, unlawful conduct or negligence.

Scope of Indemnity

17.2 This indemnity applies only to the extent that the claim or loss arises from your conduct or breach, and does not apply to the extent that the claim results from our negligence or breach of these Terms.

Cooperation

17.3 Where a claim arises that may be covered by this Section, you agree to give us reasonable help and information in defending or resolving it.

18. Termination and Effect of Termination

Closing Your Account

18.1 You can ask us to close your account at any time from your account settings, subject to any outstanding bookings, payments or legal obligations. We will close it within one month.

18.2 Closing your account does not automatically cancel any confirmed bookings. Confirmed bookings remain subject to these Terms, including the cancellation terms in Section 11.

Termination or Suspension by Us

18.3 We may suspend or terminate your access to the Platform in accordance with Section 4.

18.4 Subject to clauses 4.18 to 4.20, where reasonably practicable, we will tell you about termination and the reasons for it, unless doing so would:

(a) breach legal or regulatory obligations;

(b) compromise an investigation; or

(c) pose a risk to other Neighbours or the integrity of the Platform.

Effect of Termination

18.5 When your account is terminated:

(a) your right to access and use the Platform ends immediately;

(b) we may remove or disable your Listings and content; and

(c) any outstanding confirmed bookings continue to be governed by these Terms unless cancelled in accordance with Section 11.

18.6 Termination does not affect:

(a) rights or obligations that arose before termination;

(b) any payments due; or

(c) any provisions of these Terms that are intended to survive termination.

Survival

18.7 The following Sections survive termination:

  • Section 3 (Our Role);
  • Section 12 (Assumption of Risk);
  • Section 15 (Disputes Between Neighbours);
  • Section 16 (Limitation of Liability);
  • Section 17 (Indemnity);
  • this Section 18; and
  • Section 21 (Governing Law & Jurisdiction).

19. Force Majeure

Events Beyond Our Control

19.1 We are not liable for any failure to perform, or delay in performing, any obligation under these Terms where it results from events beyond our reasonable control.

19.2 Such events may include, without limitation:

(a) acts of God, flood, fire, storm or extreme weather;

(b) war, civil unrest or terrorist activity;

(c) government action, regulation or restriction;

(d) failure of telecommunications networks or internet service providers;

(e) failure or disruption of third-party service providers, including payment processors;

(f) power outages;

(g) cyber attacks or malicious interference; or

(h) industrial disputes not involving our workforce.

Effect of Force Majeure

19.3 Where a force majeure event occurs, our obligations under these Terms are suspended for the duration of the event.

19.4 We will take reasonable steps to resume normal operation of the Platform as soon as reasonably practicable.

20. Changes to These Terms

Right to Amend

20.1 We may amend these Terms for valid reasons, including:

(a) changes to the Platform's features or functionality;

(b) changes in applicable laws or regulatory requirements;

(c) security or technical improvements;

(d) changes to payment providers or operational processes; or

(e) changes to our commercial model.

Notice of Changes

20.2 Where changes are important, we will give reasonable notice, by email or through the Platform, and ask you to review and accept the updated Terms when you next sign in.

20.3 The updated Terms take effect from the date given in the notice.

Business Profiles

20.4 If you have a Business Profile, we will email you about any change to these Terms at least 15 days before it takes effect for you. If the change means you need to adapt how you work or what you offer, we will give you longer. Until then, the current Terms continue to apply to you.

20.5 The notice period in clause 20.4 does not apply where:

(a) the law or a regulator requires us to make the change in a way that does not allow that notice; or

(b) we need to make the change urgently to protect the Platform or Neighbours from fraud, malware, spam, a data breach or another security risk.

20.6 You can choose to accept a change before it takes effect, for example by accepting the updated Terms when you sign in. The change then applies to you from that point.

20.7 If you do not agree to a change, you can ask us to close your Business Profile or account before the change takes effect, and we will close it before the change applies to you.

Effect of Changes

20.8 Changes to these Terms do not affect bookings confirmed before they take effect, unless required by law. If you have a Business Profile, we do not apply changes to you retrospectively, unless the law requires it or the change benefits you.

If You Do Not Agree

20.9 If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Platform and may ask us to close your account in accordance with Section 18.

21. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

Governing Law

21.1 These Terms and any dispute or claim (including non-contractual disputes or claims) arising out of or in connection with them or the use of the Platform are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Jurisdiction

21.2 Subject to clause 21.3, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the use of the Platform.

21.3 If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your part of the United Kingdom, and nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights to do so.
